Paro Half Day Excursions

Taktshang  Geomba

Taktshang is the most famous of Bhutans monasteries, perched on the side of a cliff 900m above the floor of Paro valley, where the only sounds are murmurs of winds and water and the chanting of monks. The monastery itself is closed to tourists except by special permit. However the one hour walk to the view point where there is a small wooden teahouse, improbably named cafeteria, provides a close-up view of the monastery. Allow about 3 hours of the round trip. This hike is a major part of any tourist itinerary and is very worth while for the spectacular view and historical interest. Its also a good warm up hike if youre going trekking.

Cheli La

The 35 km drive to Cheli la makes an interesting road excursion and is an excellent jumping off point for day walks. From the pass at 3810m there are views of Jhomolhari as well as down to the Haa valley. Ine of the Bhutans designated treks is a walk from Bondey to Cheli La, a 1500m elevation gain, followed by a trek downhill to Drukgyel Dzong.
