An orientation tour
of our "Garden City" begins with a drive along Orchard Road passing the
Istana. The first stop is to visit Little India, the heartland of
the India community where we witness a cacophony of colors, sounds and
scents. We move on to "Suntec City", which is a modern cluster of
impressive buildings in the heart of the city with the reknown "Fountain
of Wealth". See
the city's colonial heritage in all its splendor with a drive past the
Parliament House, the imposing Supreme Court and City Hall that
overlooks the historic St Andrew's Cathedral and the Padang which is the
venue for the many state occasions.
Our second stop will be
the Singapore's Waterfront where the Merlion is situated
alongside the Esplanade-Singapore's version of the famous Sydney Opera
House. Here, we can also see part of the once busy Singapore River and
the Grand Fullerton Hotel which once served as the General Post Office
in Singapore.
Next, we drive past the business and financial district to the oldest
and most famous Chinese temple "Thian Hock Keng", built in 1839.
We move on to the next location
Sri Mariamman Temple, built in 1826 and declared a national monument
in 1973.
Our next stop
will be a Mount Faber, where we catch a panoramic view of our
busy port and the surroundings. A stop will be made at a Jewellery
Wholesale Factory for a demonstration on jewellery handcrafting.
Our final stop
will be at the Singapore Botanic Garden, the "green lung" of our
city centre. Experience the calm & serenity of this 52 hectares garden.
(A visit to see
the Orchids at the Botanic Garden is optional and on pax own account)
